Modern Trends for Wedding Invitations ~ Guest Blogger

Hi everyone!  There's something a little different here today on Buttons & Bling.  Wendy Dessler saw my Anniversary card that I made for Verve's 5th Anniversary and asked if she could highlight my card on her blog and be a guest blogger here.  I thought it would be a fun so, without further ado, here's Wendy...

Modern Trends For Wedding Invitations

Today’s bride and groom have a lot of options their parents and grandparents did not. We use social media for almost everything so it is only natural to ask, “Do we really need to send out wedding invitations?” The answer is yes. This is a tradition that you should not do away with.

Though you probably will set up a wedding website, and a honeymoon online registry. You may even take advantage of placing your order online for bridesmaids dresses.

There are people who do not use computers. Your family and friends who are in the older generations may not even use a computer. If that person is told to go to a website for the invitation, they may be seriously offended. While you may not see any harm in this, for some people it is an insult that they may have trouble getting over.

Breaking tradition while using invitation trends

Just because you realize that an invitation is a “must do” there are new trends that make the project romantic, artsy, and loads of fun. Here are a few ideas to help you:

  • Use Snappy Colors

Forget the old fashion white wedding invitations. Go with dark colors like plum, navy blue, or black. Use gold or silver lettering to add a little class and color

  • Romantic watercolors

Watercolors are warm and romantic, especially for destination or beach weddings. Pale blues, yellows, or pinks make a soft watercolor scene. You can add colors that simply suggest a scene. For example, if you use a soft light blue over the top, white, then a deeper blue, followed by tan. You just used a color scheme that suggests without pictures, of the beach.  This is perfect if you are having a destination wedding in Hawaii. Use calligraphy to add understated elegance.

  • Envelope Liners

When a guest receives your wedding invitations, they know they are something special. They open the envelope carefully as to preserve it. The first thing they see is the envelope liner. Foils are often used in gold or silver but don’t hold back. Use this space to put some snap in your printed wedding package. Keep them with the wedding theme. The liner should be beautiful. It can be solid or floral and other prints. Bring out the color of the invitation give your invitation the wow factor you have hoped for.

  • Monograms or Family Crests

This year’s trend is placing a monogram at the top of your invitation. It can be your initials or a combination of your names. Some people (who are taking the last name of the spouse) often look up their family crests. It is a fun way to get to know a little history in your family. Of course, the light colors need a dark ink monogram and the dark paper needs a light, white, or silver ink. The monograms and family crests are very detailed and you want your guests to see how much effort you put into the introduction of their lives together.

Sunshine for my Soul ~ PTI Blog Hop

Greetings everyone!  Here's my take for this month's PTI June Blog Hop.  I was inspired by the colours of ombre and the flowers.  My Gran's Garden finally arrived and I was itching to ink it up.  I have a dear colleague leaving our school and needed a special card for her.  She'll only be down the street at the high school, but that's still too far for me! WAA!

Thanks for stopping by...I can't wait to check out all your projects!  Happy Sunday!

With Appreciation ~ Make it Monday

Hello friends! It's the last stretch of school here in BC...one more week to go and this gal will be singing the summer lovin' tune!  It was easy to be inspired by apples again for this week's PTI Make it Monday challenge...create a Pantone colour chip card.  The Mega Mixed Messages set had lots of perfect fonts for this challenge.  I think this was the only stamp not inked yet in my set.  Thanks for stopping by!  Have a wonderful weekend :)

Hey everyone!  I'm just relaxing a bit in the studio after our company departed.  We've had a fun Father's Day weekend with  out of town and in town family...lots of fun and laughter :)  I'm sneaking in a quick card for PTI's Create Along with Us.  I was inspired by Dawn's gorgeous card...

I used a bunch of old sets  along with Rosie Posie (AGAIN!) but kept the same colours and layout as Dawn's card.  Thanks for stopping by!

A Very Happy Birthday to You

Happy Sunday, friends!  I've got report cards written and am off to print them at my school, proof read them, then they are DONE for another year.  I worked on them steadily all week after dinner so I had a little spare time this weekend to play with my favourite PTI Make it Monday challenge.  This week we are asked to make a background with ink and baby wipes.  This was so fun and quick!  I made 2 backgrounds...

...because I'm still going strong on creating 2 cards at once.  It's amazing how that one extra card builds up your stash!

Thanks for stopping by!

So Happy ~ PTI Make it Monday

Hello friends!  Yikes, it's June and that means I have 4 weeks to wrap up the school year...field trips, report cards, iPad presentations, new curriculum, gifts...it's kind of like Christmas, it has to get done!  I just had to play with this week's Make it Monday so I took a break in the studio.  Marcia's idea to use  the negative die cut from her first card inspired me to do the same.  Those bits from the quatrefoil cover plate are too good to throw away!

I used the same papers and die cuts but changed up the sentiment for a little variation.  They look so sweet together!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great weekend!  Ok, now it's back to work!

Shine Like the Sun ~ Curtain Call Inspiration

Hello everyone! A new challenge is up and ready to go over on the  Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge.  This time we’re inspired by this photo…

I was inspired by the succulent colours and translated them onto flowers, although, knowing me, succulents would survive better than flowers! HA!  Here's my second card with a junk bow...
