Online Card Class ~ Background Check, Day 4

numberbackground

Today in the Online Card Class, we were using dies in a variety of ways to create backgrounds.  I made two backgrounds inspired by Laura Bassen’s projects.  First up is sort of a combination of Laura and Kristina’s ideas, making my own coverplate with number dies.  Here’s what it looked like before I put it through the Big Shot.

I then layered in on top of some school paper.  I love that the patterned paper has numbers on it!

Next up is using letter dies that have not been detached from each other to create a white on white look.  It looks like the letters are raised, but they have been die cutted out.  Very cool in the photo.  I used PTI’s Headline Alphabet Stamp Set.

That’s it for today!  I’m taking the long weekend off so I’ll finish the class next week.  Thanks for stopping by!

Online Card Class ~ Background Check, Day 3, #4

littleangelgirlmaureenplut

I have been loving the Online Card Class, Background Check.  Not only do I get to play with my distress inks, I also get to replenish my card stash which has been very weary the last year while I finished my Masters.  My goal this summer was to rectify this.  I knew I wanted to make a couple of baby cards with these next two backgrounds.  I added a cute little PTI baby frame and some buttons and DONE!  The girl version…

The boy version…

Oh, I had been waiting to make another card with Verve’s The Buzz and matching The Buzz Die Set.  It’s the one I had in mind when I made this background for the Online Card Class.

Online Card Class ~ Background Check: Day 3, #2

thanksmaureenplut

Back again for another Online Card Class card.  This one uses one of my practice patterns, but I loved it so much that I decided to use it on a card!

comparisonmaureenplut

Jennifer McGuire showed us several ways to make window cards.  It was late and I must say I should’ve watched the videos again because I had to rework the window and acetate panel a few times! HA!  I also need some of the new Stick It sheets so I can adhere thin dies without using glue.  The glue got over some of the top of the sentiment so I just covered it up by adding glossy accents to the whole word.  I think this would be a perfect masculine card!  Those can be difficult to make.  Okay, back in a few minutes!

Online Card Class ~ Background Check: Day 3, #1

classactmaureenplut

Hi everyone!  I love the new format of this Online Card Class.  After a couple of days of “techniques,”  there is a Design Break day where the instructors show various types of cards you can make with your new backgrounds!  What a great idea! I had a busy day yesterday so I was up LATE making cards.  This first one uses this background…

embossedbackgroundresistmaureenplut

I used my Spellbinders Apple dies.  I LOVE these old dies and this teacher will never get rid of them.  The background is very bold so I layered an embossed vellum cardstock layer and a sweet red heart (with glossy accents) to try to draw your eye away from the busy paper.  I’ll be right back with some more cards!

Background Check ~ Online Class: Day 2, #2

embossedbackgroundresistmaureenplut

Hello again!  Here’s my second post for the Online Card Class, Background Check.  Jennifer McGuire showed up how to clear emboss on patterned paper and then swipe the whole surface with ink.  Here’s what I started with…

After embossing, I swiped the paper with PTI’s Raspberry Fizz.  I’m hoping to turn this into a school themed card :)  Thanks for stopping by!

Background Check ~ Online Class ~ Day 2, #1

stampedplaidmaureenplut

Hello!  We meet again so soon!  I’m up and at ‘em with another technique on Day 2 of the Online Card Class, Background Check.  Today we are making plaid backgrounds with the lovely and funny Laura Bassen.  I must admit I’m a patterned paper girl, but I wanted to experiment with stamping backgrounds for a change.  I know with plaid, things could go terribly wrong very quickly so I started with an inspiration photo from Pinterest…

House of Turquoise: Marianne Jones...this is fabulous. Love the checks, the prints, and the rug!

I looked at the ottoman very carefully to see how the stripes were broken down.  It was bit tricky, and the first try (on the left below) has different stripes. Here’s how I started my second try…

firststripesmaureenplut

I practised on plain photocopy paper first… the one on the left is my first try. Then I went a bit bolder on the far left.  The final one, stamped on white cardstock is the finished one :)  This will be made into a baby boy card soon!

I used Clearly Besotted’s Basics Stripes to create the plaid lines. Thanks for stopping by!  Post 2 is coming right up!

Background Check Online Class ~ Day 1, #2

distressinksmaureenplut

So this technique is not new to me, but I do love it.  It’s smooshing with distress inks.  I jumped on the mixed media bandwagon last summer and these TH distress inks were part of my haul.  I chose warm colours as I’ve got a little “Bee” card I want to make.  Since I’ve taken this photo, I’ve spritzed some gold spray ink on the paper for some fun shine.  I can’t wait for Day 2 of the Online Card Class, Background Check.  Thanks for taking a look!

Background Check Online Class ~ Day 1, #1

blendedbackgroundmaureenplut

Hi friends!  Well, I’m quite settled into my lazy summer days and staying on track with the big house clean.  I’m almost done the kitchen with just the drawers left to do.  We have a HUGE kitchen so I broke this major task down into doable chunks and we’re almost there!  It feels so good to purge!

I was so excited when the latest Online Card Class was announced awhile back.  It would be in the summer and during a week I would be home!  We had several ink blending techniques today and here’s my first go at it.  I really do need more Tim Holtz blending foams (I just have one big one with no refills!), the make up ones don’t work well.  Oh well, I have a sweet little baby card to make and this will be the perfect background for it…stay tuned!

Here are my supplies…

I’ve got one more background to share in my next post!  Thanks for stopping by!

happymaureenplut

Hello!  I’ve been happily creating in the studio this week and was determined to give the PTI Make it Monday challenge a try.  I have ordered better watercolour paints so had to use a good substitute for this challenge, my gelatos.  I was inspired by Leigh’s card what with the gorgeous colours and huge butterfly.  Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you have a lovely day :)

manyblessingsmaureenplut

Hi everyone!  It’s the 25th of the month and another PTI Blog Hop!  I had fun looking through my design paper pads to find the perfect colours and pattern that went with the inspiration photo.

pti hop

I switched it up by putting the butterfly in vintage white and making the background colourful.  I love the way vellum makes everything look so soft.  Thanks for stopping by and see you on the hop!
