It’s Your Birthday!

framedbirthday

Yikes!! Well, it may not be your birthday, but I’m sure it’s somebody’s! LOL  Ah, it’s TGIF and the Royal Wedding is probably over…I don’t care what the nay-sayers say (the dh being one of them)…I think a little modern fairytale is what we all need now and then.  Young love, ain’t it grand?  And I will be watching the repeat of the wedding after work…I wish Canada would have declared it a National Holiday too (lucky Aimes!).  Anyways, up today is my entry for the Papertrey Ink Make It Monday – Line Frame.  I so wanted to dig out my little dress form and stamps as well as ink up some more images from Hello Friend.  This is pretty CAS for me, but I love the elements and colour combo :)  Have a wonderful day and hopefully I can take another pic of the “hole.”  It’s bigger now and I’ll try to point out where the new studio will be!! LOL  And congrats to William and Kate!!!

Happy Mother’s Day

mother'sdaycolourq

Good morning!! Today’s card uses the “interesting” cool colours of green and blue from this week’s Colour Q challenge.  I had a real funky card in my head, using lots of circles,l but it didn’t translate well to paper.  I will file that idea, though, and revisit it one day, as I think it would look very cool.  So this little number was the runner up! lol  I kept the idea of circles with the doilies and used bits of the challenge colours with the crisp clean look of white.  Soooooo, something exciting happened yesterday!!  We broke ground on the new house!!  It still looks like a pile of dirt, but there is definitely a hole there!! LOL  I will keep you all informed on the update.  I work a few minutes away from our lot, so it’s fun to drop by after work and see the progress.  Thanks for stopping by…what are YOU excited about today?

Hello Friend(s)!

butterflies

Hello and good morning, friends!!  Well, it’s back at it today…as much as I love long weekends, it is a tad more difficult to get into the swing of things after having 4 days to pitter patter around :)  Today’s card was so fun to make!!  The challenge over on The Shabby Tea Room this week is to use butterflies…hmmm, I know, not really a challenge!! LOL  I really took the inspiration photo to heart and dug out ALL (except my SU butterfly Bigz Die) of my butterfly punches and dies.  Then I grabbed my patterned paper scrap bags and picked out a rainbow of colours…then I went to town cutting and positioning all these little beauties.  I wanted to keep everything else white…the sentiment panel, the butterfly embossed panel underneath the butterflies and the ribbon.  The final step was to mix the buttons and bling.  Thanks so much for visiting and for all your sweet comments about my PTI blog hop post yesterday :)  Hugs!!

Papertrey Ink April Blog Hop

fathersdaybloghop
Good morning!!  Welcome to my April Papertrey Ink blog post!  This month we’re celebrating the Boys and Men in our lives.   If you’ve been following the latest Papertrey Ink Release, you will remember Nichole’s amazing Mother’s Day card using an old picture.  I just had to replicate it for Father’s Day.  Yep, that’s yours truly at about age 2!  I even have bells on my shoes! LOL  This photo was actually a colour photo but I photo edited it with a “sepia” look.  I had to change up the elements from Nichole’s card so they would be a bit more masculine…the cork star, and dotted background and the leaf and berry circle image.  Notice the date?  I don’t have the addition set of dates for the Library Ledger Series (and I don’t think the new one goes back to this date! LOL) so I thought I’d just add this year’s date…now here’s how I got “2011…”  I carefully cut up the year 2001.  I cut off the “01” at the end and stamped the “1” twice at the end! EEK!! I had to!!  I love using old photos…here’s my Father’s Day card from last year…
iheartdad
The next card is inspired by the latest Wild Card Colour Challenge.  They were “masculine” colours so I thought they’d be perfect for another Father’s Day card…the dotted label frame and bit of ribbon under the star are actually Forest Foliage/Pinefeather respectively…just difficult to photograph as they are a deep deep green.  The star is made out of chipboard using 2 of the PTI star dies and then inked with SU chocolate chip ink.

39 and Fabulous!

39fabulous

Good morning!  Today’s card is a fun little number…oh, yes, pun intended! lol  On Wednesday, I was sitting in the staff room eating lunch when I checked the staff birthday list…our secretary’s was the next day!!  So I sat down that night and made this cute little card using colour inspiration from The Shabby Tea Room.  Okay, now I remember why I bought this doily die even though there are a million holes to punch out…you can make them in any colour, even with patterned paper!!  I love that!!  Along with pastel colours, the challenge was to also use stripes.  There they are on the doily!! Too cool :)  Now, our secretary is not quite “39,” but she appreciated the sparkly numbers of a very good year :)  lol  Thanks for visiting!! Have a wonderful Saturday :)

Happy Mother’s Day

vlvapril4

Good “Good Friday” morning!  Ahhh, the 4 day weekend is here.  Time to sit back and relax and maybe do a bit of stamping ;)  Today’s card is for the 4th and final Viva La Verve sketch this month.  Have you been keeping up?  Play all month long and have the chance to win the whole next Verve Release!! ACK!!  How fantastic would THAT be?  Sweet Diva Shannan is our hostess this month and she brings a very creative sketch that just opens up the mojo floodgates :)  I knew right away that I wanted to go the coordinating patterned paper route, but wasn’t sure how to get the “sunburst look.”  I remembered seeing something similar on Dawn McVey’s blog…they were diagonals, but the process was similar.  I just started layering paper on a scrap piece of cardstock and trimming it on slight angles.  Here’s a photo of how I laid out the paper before I turned it over and cut off the excess.

paperbefore

Then I zigzag stitched the papers together and finished the card.  The medallion was a little tricky too.  With all the busy-ness of the paper, I had to keep the medallion to strong neutrals.  I also found that the ribbon even had to be a saturated colour to ground this baby…no pastels here! HA!  The sentiment is part of the newest Verve Release.  It’s one of the many fabulous sentiments in the Love Deepens set.  See it HERE along with the rest of the release on SALE!! AND, Julee has just announced an Easter Sale all weekend on the Faith line stamps!!   I hope you have a blessed day…a very special one for me as I remember some history in my faith :)  Hugs to you all and thanks so much for visiting :)

Give Unto Them

beautyforashes

Good morning, friends!  I haven’t been participating in the Embellish challenges much at all lately but I couldn’t help but be inspired by the colours this week as well as the chosen requirement of crochet trim.  With even further inspiration from Sarah Martina’s video this week, I made my own little crochet flower with some trim.  LOVE IT!!  The only sad thing about this card is that I made if for a dear colleague who lost her brother to a similar cancer that my brother in law died from.  Even though I do have some “thinking of you” and “sympathy” cards in my stash, I usually wind up making another one.  I like to choose specific sentiments for certain people and I actually think of them the whole time I’m creating.  My friend’s brother is having his service in the church I grew up in so I know she will appreciate this beautiful verse.  I must say Verve stamps are my go-to stamps for these kind of cards.  Julee sure knows how to pick the perfect words :)  Hmmm…two sad memories in a row…how ‘bout tomorrow I change that up!! lol….thanks for visiting and hug those loved ones!!

Mom

momcreate

One word today, very simple…Mom.  I didn’t really think about this one word until I uploaded the picture and actually looked at that one word.  {now the tears come}.  Some of you know I lost my mom about a year and a half ago to Alzheimers.  Life does go on, though I must say the hardest time is Mother’s Day and making these cards for everyone else’s mom but my own.  The dh loved this card and so has already claimed it for his mom :)  I couldn’t help but be inspired by the beautiful colour palette over on the CR84FN challenge blog.  One can’t get much yummier than aqua and cream.  Two colours I plan to use a lot of in the new ensuite!! LOL  Yay, it’s Wednesday and a short week!!  Wishing you a fabulous day and thanks for visiting!!

Two Lives, One Love

onelovewms

Good morning!! Today’s card is for the new Waltzingmouse Stamps Challenge.  It was a simple layout, perfect for lots of creativity and interpretation.  I have been on a bit of a balsa wood kick this month after seeing Dawn McVey make some gorgeous cards with it.  I just love it for a different texture.  And let’s face it…wood is good!! LOL  These leaves were cut out with the newly released Verve Elegant Leaves die and stamped with the matching leaf image from Bloom and Grow.  I was also inspired by Janelle’s beautiful paper blossoms so I had to take some sheet music paper that she sent me last year and make some flowers too!! (thanks again, Janelle!)  The vellum has been stitched to the dp as it was a bit bright and I wanted to tone it down :)  Hope your day is wonderful, thanks for popping by!

After the Verve Party…

hopeblooms1

Good morning!  It’s the Monday after a new Verve Release so that means there’s an After the Party  post over on the Verve Blog with all the Diva’s favourites!!  Yikes!! Be prepared to be inspired and get ready to shop if you haven’t already!! (Just sayin’…it was an incredible release!).  I asked some of you yesterday to see if you could guess which card was going to be my favourite…did you guess this one?  I actually had two…my white and berry sorbet Mother’s Day card with the white butterfly is a close second, but I couldn’t resist all these colourful flowers from Hope Blooms on kraft and the notepage with the stacked felt flower using the new Floral Circle dies…oh my!!  What is your favourite set from the release?  (I won’t blame you if you say ALL of them!! lol).  Well, it’s Monday and a staff meeting so let’s get this day started!!  Hope you are having a great start to your week!  Thanks for stopping by :)

A Cheery Sort of Day

cheerysortofday

Good morning!!  It’s become tradition around here to have a Saturday late morning post and I LOVE it!!  I wake up early (my body is set to wake up at 6:30 because of work…lol), lie in bed and relish the thought that I don’t have to get up…then eventually I get up, make coffee and catch up on my Blog List :)  Then I make a card!!  I’ve discovered a new (to me) colour challenge, colourQ.  I don’t know if it was this week’s colours or the fact that they spell “colour” the Canadian/UK way or what, but I had to play.  I have a little stack of PTI stamps that need some love after their LOOOONGGGG journey to get to me.  One could use this Button Boutique set a thousand times and never get the same card twice…there are sooo many options…kind of like the Just the Ticket set.  The little green doily was a little too plain for me, so I embossed it with the Diamonds in the Rough folder.  Some bling, a cheery sentiment from Hello Friend and this Saturday is off to a great start!!  We are off in a bit to check out fireplaces and outdoor stone samples for the new house!!  If everything works out, we start digging the hole in the next week or so!!! Yahooo!!  Thanks for visiting!! I love to read each and every comment…you are all so sweet!!  (oh, and p.s…I’m a bit hung over from the Verve Release Party last night!!  LOL  The whole new stamp release is on sale…go check it out HERE!!! )  Cheers!!

Verve New Release Spotlights ~ Day Three

plainjanethurs

Good morning!! It’s one more sleep until the new Verve release!!  Today’s spotlight is on the most amazing and versatile set, Love Deepens, as well as a heartfelt Plain Jane of Proverbs 31:28.  I went all Shabby/Vintage on this one and added a little cameo in a chipboard frame…to me it just says “Lovely Mother, Beautiful Woman.”  I’ve also added another little sentiment from Happy Phrases using the Charming Oval and Charming Banner dies.  The next card uses two stamps from the Love Deepens set…the first sentiment stamped was “You’re An Amazing” and the second one was “Mom.”  But there are many, many others in the set you could use instead!!  ACK!! Wait until you see!!
