Happy Birthday, Dad & New Light Box!

Good evening! I didn't think I'd get to post till the weekend, but needed a card for my dad's birthday party on Saturday. He turned 78 yesterday. I thought of the perfect gift for him...a truck detailing package...they are going to scrub and shampoo the inside of his truck and "dress" his tires. He's an old cowboy and his truck was a mess when I saw the inside of it in June. I hope he uses this!! So I had to make the dreaded "masculine" card. Actually, they are sort of easy because you don't have a lot of embellishments to choose from! LOL I used the old SU map background stamp, some grey patterned paper, red stitching and button, twine, and dollar store foam letters!! I like the way it turned out :) The Happy Birthday sentiment is not inked perfectly...I think it's because I gave this stamp the "spa" treatment last week :) I left it because it looked "weathered." (or because I'm lazy...maybe a bit of both!).

Onto other news...my classroom is ready for kids next Tuesday. I have a writing workshop tomorrow and then the weekend will be spent with my son and the rest of the family. We went to Home Depot last night and got 2 big lights for the light box they made me :) It works pretty well so far. I've been fiddling with camera settings...and like the results so far. I velcroed my fabric to the inside of the box and can change it to a darker piece when a card has a cream or white base. Here are a couple of pictures...one of my handsome and handy builders and one of the box itself...thanks Tanny for the tutorial!! I just need to find room for it...it's in the hall right now!!

I'm also trying out a new signature...thanks, Marisa!! I'm still learning so much with all this blog stuff! Please check back Saturday morning when I'm guest designer for Cinema Saturday :) Until then, have a fabulous Friday!!

What's in it?

Stamps: SU old world map; PTI birthday basics

Paper: SU kraft, dp, white

Ink: basic gray

Accessories: stitching, button, linen thread, twine, foam letters (dollar store)

I like how this card turned out too! And I've never thought about foam stickers before...hmmm.... I like the red stitching and button. Nice touch.

How much did the light box cost? Would your men be interested in making another? Taking pictures may be difficult when we are limited day light hours in the winter.

You lucky lady you!! Wish my DH was a handy man....oh well, he has many talents in other areas :D Great card - love the rough look to it and I love how you used foam letters on it -- score! The red adds a bit of zip to it as does the twine. I'm sure he will love it.

Had to smile when I saw your tote boxes all nicely labeled on the shelves behind the worker picture. The ever present issue of having to keep and collect things when one is a teacher.

Glad the signature line worked out! I picked mine because I liked how it looked LOL! My actual signature is somewhat similar but the "M" is much larger.

Enjoy your family weekend :D

I love this card!, it is very masculine and perfect. Lucky, I love the light box. I'm gonna have to take a closer look to see if I can make myself one. I have a great camera but am not a great editor of my photos.
