Dude, You Rock!!

Oh, wow!! It's been a long time since I've played along with the Cinema Saturday gals!!  Eek!!! I feel like a bad follower  :(  I hope I can redeem myself with today's card :)  This week's movie is Ferris Bueller's Day Off.  Oh, how I love this movie and have watched it many times over the years :)  There are so many great and funny parts but one of my all time favourite's is when the Economics teacher is talking about the Great Depression and keeps saying, "Anyone, anyone?"  and then gives the answers...oh, how I laugh each time this part comes on.  I also loved when Ferris sings in the shower and on the float in the parade :)  Today's card is inspired by that singing as well as the secretary's quote, "They think he's a righteous dude."  What other stamp could I use but Dawn McVey's "Dude, You Rock" from her Signature Greetings?  I never thought I would use this quote, as I don't say, DUDE!!! Although, my dh and I laugh all the time when the young kids say it in all their sentences...LOL   Lesson: never say never, Dude!! I'm also using Mercy's sketch from last Tuesday...it was such a great one and I so wanted to use it :)  After thinking about it for awhile, this card will be perfect for my nephew who is graduating from Grade 12 this year :)  He lives in the States and plays guitar...perfect!! (I even think he says "dude" alot!! LOL).  Hope your week has started out well...thanks for stopping by :)

Sunshine!!

Good afternoon!! What a glorious day it has been!!  Breakfast out with my dh, annual flower shopping and planting, AND we finally found a couple more ribbon racks for the studio... more on that later!! LOL  Today's fun, fun, FUN card is for the first June Viva La Verve sketch.  We are walking through kids' rooms this month...hmmm, many years too late for me now, but maybe for some future grandchildren!!  I immediately chose the first inspiration photo, dazzled by the colours!! Hola!!!  Forget a kid's room, I want this room!! LOL  I was inspired, again, by the leaf motif (say that quickly 10 times!) so made my own background paper with 3 different leaf stamps.  I wrote down all the colours I could see in the photo and tried to incorporate them in my card...bright green, hot pink, bubblegum pink, grey, white, yellow, orange...I think I got them all...for sure most of them :)
Here's a close up of the sentiment...and the inspiration photo along with the sketch...

Okay, before I go, I had to include my new ribbon racks...about a year ago, my dh purchased the first rack (left) to house my small, modest ribbon collection...he asked if he should buy me 2 racks, but I assured him I had room to grow!! LOL  Then the ribbon addiction set in! LOL  We tried to get another one, but they don't seem to carry them anymore at Home Depot (at least here in B.C.).  On our way to buy the flowers, we stopped in one more hardware store and found 2 smaller versions made by a different company...but they work!!  I was a happy little ribbon camper rearranging all the ribbon into colour bands and adding the spools that have been sitting in piles for awhile :)  And again, he asked if we should've bought more racks...I assured him I have room to grow...LOL, he he he...okay, that's all...have a wonderful Sunday evening :)

Ugh, but not yet!!  LOL  But almost :)  Today's card is a different take on the current Verve Project Parade.  Before summer can really start for me or any teacher , school has to end :)  I was in one of our local dollar stores last week and saw these fun little clips that I see at office stores, but these ones were colourful and $1.00!!  I knew I wanted to make some kind of "school's out"  card...hmmm, but who for?  Then I thought about turning it into a thank-you card for our secretary :)  She is the center and soul of the office and makes everything run smoothly :)  The Verve sentiment from Kindred Spirits was the perfect one to add :)  Is that fun polka dot paper or what?  It's the reason I had to have Basic Grey's Green at Heart...I wish I had a whole pad of it :)  Oh, and another cork flower...love these :)  So my summer officially begins on June 30th...I consider this the New Year's Day of my year, not January 1st :)  Thanks so much for visiting and all your sweet comments...my blog buddies new and old are the best :)

Embellish Blog Hop, click here

Good evening!!! Wow, this week has been a lovely whirlwind dream for me...I was in Kristina's top 10 and in the Embellish Blog Hop with some of the most talented designers in the field :)  But now I am back to reality and my humble little blog just doing what I love to do :)  And lately, what I love to do is create with this crinkly ribbon.  My dear friend, Melisa, gets me so hooked on things  and this ribbon is no exception.  When you live in Canada, you can't just order a little bit of something...you need to make the most of shipping deals. So you (aka "I")  order LOTS!!!  Today's card is for Kristina's second Reader's Choice Colour Inspiration.  Yes, 6 colours again!! LOL  I had to think a lot on this one...mostly on the treadmill at the gym.  I knew I wanted to use this gorgeous grape crinkly ribbon and went from there :)  I switched the label shape a few times until settling on the circle and this fabulous Verve sentiment :)

Yay!!! It's Friday!!!! And it's girlfriend date night for an hour or so and then our dh's are joining us :)  What could be better than that?  Hope your Friday is lovely and thanks, as always, for visiting :)

The Premiere Embellish Blog Hop!!

Welcome, Embellish fans!!  Join me today along with Embellish Magazine for a blog hop filled with creativity, tips, inspiration, and prizes.  Don't forget to leave comments on every blog. Embellish is offering four prizes for 10 lucky winners. The winners will be randomly selected from each of the blog hop participant blogs. A comment left on each of the blog hop participant's web site will give you an entry to win one of the prizes, which include Lawn Fawn stamps, May Arts twine, Subscription to Embellish Magazine, and A New Design crinkly stained ribbon.

Today's cards are using the original colours and twine that were for the first Embellish publication call last year.  I wanted to make 2 different styles of cards and then one Father's Day one that a friend at work asked me to make for her husband from their two boys.

I saw a card last month that used this technique of rolling white craft ink over embossed paper.  I just love the vintage-y look of the craft ink on kraft paper :)  I'm still in love with the Waltzing Mouse Very Vintage Labels 4 stamp set. It has made me fall in love with these labels over and over again :)  The turquoise seam binding is tied in a double bow (see Melissa's tutorial here) and my grandpa's "real" vintage button is tied to it with twine.
This card has a more modern look...cleaner lines and a fun kraft tissue flower (via Melissa Phillips blog again)  The light turquoise paper is from Amy Butler.  I just had to use this sentiment again...it was sitting on my desk for the longest time wanting and waiting for a card like this :)

Okay, this one doesn't quite use turquoise, although, it is blue.  And the photo is "sepia" so I think I'm okay to include it.  This is the Father's Day card that a coworker asked me to make.  I thought the Embellish colours and twine were perfect for it.  The kraft card base is stamped with an old world map stamp in chocolate brown :)  I think this dad will love it :)

If you are following the list in order, your next stop will be the talented Brenda Weaver's blog.  Thanks for visiting!!! It's been a honour to be in such talented and awe inspiring company :)

Papertrey May Blog Hop Challenge

Good afternoon and welcome to my blog!!  It's the Papertrey Blog Hop and this month is all about felt :)  Today's post shows 3 different ways to use felt...first up is the felt blossom Betsy Veldman showed us how to make on this blog post...I was a little nervous at first trying this one but they really are easy to make!! (thanks, Betsy!!).  This card also uses some old sheet music that my new dear blog friend, Janelle, sent me after I saw it on the last PTI blog hop!!  I have used several sheets already (thanks, Janelle. It's just like you to be so nice!! LOL)
This next card uses felt for a birdie die cut.  This card also features the gorgeous seam binding that Melissa Phillips is making famous :)  I am still waiting for my mail orders so my sweet friend, Melisa, lent me some so I could make this card (thanks, Melisa!!)
Last, but not least...here is felt as a label die cut.  I was inspired by the fabulous colour inspiration photo found over at A Creative Mint.  Well, that's all!! Thanks so much for coming by and all your encouraging comments :)  I can't wait to see what everyone else has created :)

Happy Birthday to You

Good morning, dear friends and Happy Victoria Day to all my fellow Canadians :)  The sun is finally shining so this will be a quick post so I can go detail my car (finally!!).  Today's card is for the current Embellish colour challenge with the extra requirement of butterflies.  I have several small butterfly punches, but chose my favourite Stampin' Up butterfly die :)  Dawn McV.'s Damask stamp set came to mind right away for some reason as did wrapped twine instead of ribbon!! (hard to believe, I know!)  Maybe it was to keep the focus on the butterfly :)  Have a lovely day :)

Flowers are the Music of Life

Good afternoon, blog friends :)  It's the first day of my long weekend and although the sun has yet to show itself, it was the perfect day to clean the house and make cards in the studio :)  The weatherman promises sunnier weather tomorrow and Monday so I'm fine with that :)  Today's card is for the final Viva La Verve May challenge.  Amber, the host, asked us to be inspired by our own studios.  Yippee!!  I love my studio, definitely one of my favourite rooms in my house :)  To narrow down the inspiration, though, I pulled out some new products that I've either purchased online or at the fabulous little LSS when I was away last weekend :)  I gathered them on my desk along with my lovely Janome sewing machine.  I love this machine :)

Can you see that sheet of music paper?  A new blog friend, Janelle, sent me an envelope of this gorgeous music paper from old church hymns.  I love it!! I wanted to use it so badly with this Basic Grey paper and the kraft tissue paper blossom.  What other sentiment could I use but this Floral Symphony one from Verve?  LOL  Oh, and yes, that's a mug off to the left...with the rest of my latte...I thought it went well with the card colours :)  LOL Have a lovely weekend and thanks for visiting :)

Wishing You Sunshine

Good evening!!  Wow, things seem really quiet around blogland lately...spring is really busy, isn't it?  Tonight's card is for 2 challenges...I'm using Mercy's fabulous sketch this week for Verve's Ready, Set, Stamp challenge.  This is the second of such challenges that Julee created a month or so ago.  The first challenge used the Delightful and Delicious set.  I was fortunate to have just purchased this Up, Up and Away set last month (to get free shipping to Canada!! LOL)  I didn't think I was a hot air balloon type of girl, but it's always a good set to have around...especially now with this challenge!!  I saw a double layer of this My Mind's Eye cloud paper and then just kept adding layers...it was really fun to create this little sky scene.  The kraft card base is embossed with swiss dots...if you click on the picture, you will see them more clearly :)  A beautiful bow would not work behind this cloud panel so I opted for twine and a bow :)  Okay...it's Friday tomorrow and a long weekend here in Canada!  What could be more fun?  Thanks for stopping by :)

What's in it?
stamps: verve up,up and away + let it shine; PTI blooming button bits

Happy Birthday

Good evening, friends...tonight's card is for this week's Mojo Monday sketch.  At first, I thought "too many panels"...but then I thought...oh, more vintage practise :)  So, okay, my vintage is just stitches and distressing with a bit of sponging...but I'm slowly getting there.  And who know, next week I might be back to more bright colours and bold prints...don't you love this craft of ours?  Endless possibilities.  So what's new on today's card?  More of this gorgeous Basic Grey Green at Heart paper, the Hero Arts ledger stamp (on the apricot layer) and the white thin floss that my dear friend, Melisa picked up for me at a thrift store with a few extra goodies...thanks M.H.!!  The cork panel was a little too empty for my liking, but I'm not sure if pearls were the right addition.  I tried buttons in various numbers and size, but they didn't look right with the large melon button....great use of big buttons BTW!!!  Two more days until our Canadian Victoria Day long weekend...the last one before the summer!!! The countdown has almost begun :)   Cheers!!

My Soul Can Reach....

...when feeling out of sight.  Oh, I've always loved that verse!!!  Kristina Werner has a new colour challenge!!! She held a photo/colour contest and is making the winning entries the inspiration for the challenges :)  And challenges they are because 3 or 4 colours are never enough...try 6 or 7!!!  I flipped through my new Basic Grey Green at Heart pad and found the perfect paper for this challenge...a mixture of pinks, green and white.  Don't you love this blossom?  I found it at the scrapbook store this weekend...the perfect touch for my vintage obsession right now :)  The sentiment is also from a set I picked up there by Fiskars...not under the Cloud 9 name, but just Fiskars :)  Hope your week is going well :)

Birthday Blessings

Good afternoon, blog buddies!!!  I'm still out of my card making routine, but I have a feeling it's a good thing.  I have lots of product coming this month...it may be emotional shopping, or just that I've been admiring all the fabulous cards you've all been making with all the new stamps, paper and ribbon out there!! (maybe a bit of both!!)  The dh and I just got back from our little getaway and we had so much fun :)  We found several patios in the sun and got to go to all the stores we love :)  He napped in the car while I went into my favourite LSS there :)  I picked up some GORGEOUS prima 3D flowers and May Arts wide sheer ribbon...you'll know it when I use them...they are all GORGEOUS!!!  But I digress....today's card is for the third Viva La Verve sketch.  I couldn't decide if my card was more like the second or the third picture, so I picked the second one....just because it had some branches in some of the circle frames and the print colours reminded me of this new (to me) Kioshi paper.  I was thinking of a kraft card base all weekend and how this paper would POP off it.  The sentiments are from Verve's Blessings set.  The kraft panel is embossed with my new Floral Screen folder.  If you click on the picture, you can see it better.  Okay, off to wash some more summer clothes...my change over has officially begun!! LOL  I will also try to catch up on comments over the next few days...as always, thanks for leaving me some love as well :)
