Friends ‘Til the End and Blog Candy!!

friendtilend
Good morning!! Well, here I am  with a bit of a hang over from all that crazy fun on the Verve Forum last night as we celebrated 4 years of fabulous Verve Stamps :)  Julee is number one in throwing parties and this was no exception!! But I digress because I have 2 important things to share with you today.  First up is this super fun card with the fabulous ColourQ colours this week. I had a few ideas floating around in my head, but this is what came out :)  I hadn’t used my beloved button card for awhile, so it was time to dig it out :)  The sentiment is hot off the press, coming from one of the newest Verve sets, Making a Statement.  It fits perfectly at the bottom of my button card!  I have been on a “white” kick lately…I just love the clean, crisp look of it :)  Okay, now onto the second item…with most of my Diva duties winding down for now I thought it would be a great time to post my belated Blogiversary Blog Candy.  I thought for this year, I would make it a stamp set giveaway. I have 2 Papertrey Ink sets, Forest Friends and Forest Friends Sentiments, one Skipping Stones Design set, Heartsong, and one $25.00 Verve gift certificate, just in time for all the amazing sets released last night!!

So how can you win?  Leave a comment here on this post giving me your best moving tip!! That’s right! I’ve sold my townhouse and we are moving in with my dad for 3 months until the new house is ready (Heaven help us!! LOL).  The studio will be the last to be moved and I’m hoping hooking up to the internet at my dad’s will be smooth sailing…final date here is the 20th :)  I’ll randomly pick a number next Sunday, August 21 around 12:00 noon and hopefully post the winner’s name later that day, so check back.  The winner will have 3 days to contact me with their mailing address (for the stamp sets) as well as their email (for the Verve gc). Good luck and thanks for stopping by!!

Beautiful card! And moving can be so exciting! My tip - purge now! It's the perfect time to get rid of all that stuff that just collects dust! Good luck!

Wow - what a beauty of a card! I've been loving your 'white kick' - so clean & lovely.
That blog candy is OUTSTANDING, so here's my tip (having moved A LOT): don't move anything you haven't used in the last year. Heck, most stuff - six months. If you haven't used it, you aren't going to need it. Secondly, labelling your boxes is KEY! On my last move, I kept a list with notes sumarizing what was in what box and that helped to get the urgent stuff into it's places quickly since we didn't have a lot of time off to get things put away immediately.

Beautiful card :) I haven't moved in a while - maybe that's my best moving tip: don't! Lol - just kidding. I would say take your time and take the extra steps with breakable items - pack them intra paper or even hand carry them, etc. It's worth it NOT to break or damage something. You will get everything done eventually but you can't undo something. (Does that make sense?) Also - hire movers for the "big" items! Whatever the $$$ it's sooooo worth it!

Didn't put the time line together to realize you were moving out in a week or so! Eeek!!

Moving tip from me: label, label, label. I had the room the box was to go in on the outside of the box as well as some of the main items inside it for easy sorting and ability to prioritize opening of boxes. That way the movers would look at the outside of the box and know where to put it too. If you get really ambitious you could print the label out on paper and stick it to the box (I just used a felt marker).

Second, take the highly breakable things over yourself in your car. No need to risk having things broken.

Happy packing and thanks for the chance to win some amazing goodies!! I'm way behind on my blogivesary too. Need to get my act together - after the water main issue is cleared up - ugh!! We could pay for your move and then some with the bill we have for that. Good news, they are coming today to work on it and hopefully get it all fixed so we have water again. Good thing mom is only 5 minutes away so we can use her shower etc.

Cute card girl! Love what you did with the colors and I spy some PTI papers that I also have (and sadly neglect). GMTA!

Moving tip: Hire movers.

Gorgeous card! A couple of tips, anything you haven't used in over a year, you probably won't use again or not often enough, get rid of it. Another thing, using a camera, (or even your cell phone) take photos of how your electronics with a gazillion wires are wired and/or label them so they will be much easier to hook back up. Take care, happy moving! :D

This is so pretty! I love that big sentiment at the bottom! I missed most of the party last night as we had to run a last minute errand before leaving on vacation today! Yay! The sets and dies are gorgeous and I've already got my order in!!

My best tip is to hire movers, too! But, even if you do that, make sure the boxes are labeled really well - what room they go in and the order they should be unpacked. We still have some boxes we've never unpacked from our move into our place but we knew we wouldn't need them until we got our dream house so they just went into a closet that way. :)

Such a beautiful card, Maureen! I love the colors and the sentiment is so sweet! I am also loving white right now! As far as moving tips, my #1 tip is in the packing...besides making sure to keep rooms packed together, I think labeling is most important! I put labels on every side of the box, so no matter how it is stacked, you can see what is in it. And I've even taped a list of the contents on a side of the box! Moving is never fun, but having a new home to make your own is, so I wish you a smooth and stress-free move!

hello! I love your blog! My best tip would be to label all of yr boxes acccording to which room they will go in and in one box put the kettle, cupsc, coffee/tea bags, sugar etc so you can make a nice drink when you get there before you start all the hard work!

Glennis F said...

My best tip after making sure you label all the boxes so they go to the correct rooms, is to make the bed up first. By the time you have moved and done some of the unpacking, having the bed ready is so important after a tiring day

Great card Moe! Best of luck with the move! We just moved a couple of weeks ago, so I totally understand how you're feeling. I agree with the tip on purging--it's the best time to do it! We had a garage sale before our move and made over $200--more $$ for crafting, right?! Any way, all the best with the move. I can't wait to see your new craft space. I have mine almost set up and will be doing a blog post about it soon!
Thanks for the chance to win your blog candy!!

Another beautiful card :) I really like that button card stamp, I've seen a few like that but never thought I'd think of a way to use them-that's how huh?!! Pretty flower too :)

Ugh, moving! I really hate moving! I feel your pain as I've moved about 8 times in the last 8 years! Thankfully I've been in the same place for two years now-phew! Although, my other half is now talking about moving, I could cry! Ha ha!

Everyone's right about the labelling-room and contents. Something I've never tried but have heard good things about is colour labelling. My friend had a removal company to move her and she'd had a bad experience before where the movers were illiterate, so this time she stuck coloured labels on the boxes and on the rooms in the new house to make sure everything ended up in the right place! Colour's much easier and quicker to register than words if you think about it!

Along with the bed being one of the first things you sort out (that's a very good shout!) something to eat and drink is always a good idea. Once you get all the boxes in your new place you're going to be dying for a brew! Put the coffee, sugar, etc somewhere accessible-you'll be so so pleased that you did!

I hope it all goes well and doesn't encroach into your creative time too much :)

We just moved 6 months ago and what helped more than anything was purging as we packed, then once we moved we made sure our beds were up and made with fresh sheets as soon as we could and took time out to enjoy a wonderful dinner brought in by friends to celebrate our first night in our new home.

#1- Label like crazy!
#2- Don't move anything you haven't worn, used, played with, eaten off of, cooked with, or EVEN KNEW YOU HAD!
#3-GARAGE SALE!!! Take all the things from #2 and make yourself some money to help with the move...or to buy new crafty things! ;)
#4- Make sure you move the kitchen/bathroom things FIRST! It always seems like you need to use the bathroom shortly after you start moving in...and then can't find the bathroom stuff! Same thing with food. You need to eat--so know where the basic utensils are!

Have fun, Moe!

Super cute card! Love the button in the middle of the flower.

Moving tip: Hire movers, but label everything. And purge now items you have not used. Moving is the worst. Hope all goes well.

Thanks for the awesome blog candy!

I've been following your home progress on your blog......it's getting closer!

Tip: Label label. :)

Beautiful card and I LOVED your Verve creations during the release!

Love the button card and I love the blog candy! My best moving tip is to pack and label your boxes using the "3's" priority. So in the kitchen, you would pack your everyday plates and label your box "Kitchen Plates #1". Your Christmas Plates would be "X-Mas plates, #2" Not so much of a priority and your good China is a level 3. lol. I do this because once you start moving in, you will be so over-whelmed at all the unpacking and want to set up each room with the everyday use stuff or priority one boxes. The other thing I found, is this is a great time for you to get rid of the accumulated "some day I'm going to use this" stuff.....certainly not anything that has to do with stamping, lol. But rather those gadgets and do-dads that just haven't really been used in a longgg while if at all. I don't envy your move, but hope it is quick and painless.

I'm reading all the fabulous tips...so I am going to offer some fun ones:
Bribe all your and Tony's brothers with a big cooler of beer and pizza...
Have someone prepared to make lots of Starbuck's and Diet Coke runs for you...
Pick one room at a time to unpack...the studio should be number 1!

Oh my gosh that card is fabulous! The colors, the design, I just love everything about it :)

My best moving tip is do not do it by yourself! Hire professionals and let them take care of it. I have moved everything we own 6 times and each time there is more and each time I wonder why I'm doing all this work! If we ever move again, we will most certainly hire someone! Good luck on the move :)

My best tip for moving is to label each box as to the room it will go to. And if appropriate, mark it "Open Me First." Good luck with your move ... try to stay calm as moving can be quite stressful!

lovely card and i love everything buttons.

i agree with all of the tips given above but most important purge what you haven't used or worn in the last year, label every box in detail, do not trust your fragile and precious items to a man to move them - do it yourself (i learned this the hard way), and try to have fun.

Bribery is a girl's best friend. Pizza and beer for the men; dark chocolate and wine for the women. Even if you hire movers, they will treat you better if you bribe them with food. :)

Best thing I did was to move EVERYTHING that intuitively belong in a particular room to that room: ALL pens/pencils/notepads to the office, ALL dishes to the kitchen, ALL candles to the storage closet, etc.

Good luck!

Love your creations and recently became a suscriber as I've seen you in Paper Crafts and Lynn's blog.
My best moving tip is to write on the box what room and then jot down on the box what things are inside (the list can't get lost that way). When you have 6 boxes labeled "kitchen" this is really helpful. Also, don't even move things you haven't used in years...move those babies to the curb! I speak from experience!

GORGEOUS card Maureen (I feel like I say that all the time, but it's true all the time!!!).
My best moving tip; PURGE!!! It's a great time to go through your stuff as you pack and de-clutter! We just gave a TON of stuff to Goodwill after going through our stored materials. I finally said good bye to notes from college and vet school! It feels pretty great! I'll probably purge a bit more after we move and I have to unpack it all LOL!!! Best of luck with the move!!! Congrats on selling the town home!!!

What a sweet card, great way to use our CQC colors! I can't believe you are even thinking about stamping when you're getting ready to move! I know it's been said, but label those boxes WELL. And make sure each box goes into the room where it belongs so you're not searching for stuff! Bathroom gets unpacked first, too.

Tracey said...

Make sure to write which room the box is from...even if it seems so obvious at the packing time...it won't be later ;) Good luck with your move!!!

Annheidel said...

What a cute way to use the button card! As for my moving box, a lot of good advice has been given already, but designate one box as your immediate use items. For example, toilet paper, a few cups, and other things that you use and need everyday. Moving is exhausting and that way essentials are in one box until you have time to unpack. :)

Aimes said...

Awww I love how you rock that button card, Diva! Lovely to see it again :)
Have you packed up yet? My one tip would be to write on each box what's in it (sounds simple but we ended up spending hours looking for the kettle to get a cuppa on the go once we'd got in our new digs LOL!) Ooh and one more tip - if you've got any IKEA blue bags (dunno if they sell them over there) they're great for carrying heavy books (just take a handle each to share the weight!)
Can't believe it's been another blog-year for you - where does time fly by to?! Well here's to many more years of blogging and friendship :)
Hugs,
Aimes

Pretty card... I like your flower!
Moving tip: Do the purging and packing yourself and let someone else move the boxes and furniture.

Another beautiful card Maureen, as always lovin your color combinations.

Moving advice:as I lived w/ my inlaws for 4 months (with 1 child, 2 dogs, and a gold fish)

1. Hire movers....tee hee
2. Don't change the gold fish water until you get settle for a couple days.
3. Have a couple bottle of vino on hand (for those stress days)
4. Plan- what you HAVE to have b/c once it is packed you won't find it till the final move
5. Good luck girl!

Love that ribbon you used - it is wonderful! Thanks for playing along with us at ColourQ this week. As for moving, I always kept everything that was irreplaceable with me, not letting the movers take it with them. Some things are just worth the extra work to make sure that they get there.

OY, Maureen! Trust me ---- moving is a BIG process. We just finished moving and I am still unpacking boxes. I am in {love} with all of the new releases and am soooo sad that I couldn't be at the release party (still no internet at the new place...) SO, my best moving tip to you is WEED, WEED, WEED as you pack. Either throw stuff in the trash or give it to charity - there is NO point packing and moving stuff that hasn't seen the light o' day for eons...(there's some Irish vernacular for you, Miss St. Patty's Day baby... ;)

Good luck with the move!

Beautiful card Maureen! Congratulations on selling your townhouse and good luck with moving in for a while until your new house is finished! I would recommend getting a good BIG sharpie marker, maybe a couple, to label, label, label!

Penny said...

Beautiful card! The best thing I did when moving was to have it all packed beforehand so when the actual moving day came it was a breeze to get things moved over! Thanks for the chance to win!

Love this card. The crinkled flower really works. Since I just moved about 6 months ago, my best moving tip would be to downsize before you pack. I tried to get rid of items that we had kept for various reasons so we didn't have to move them and store them at the new place. I had some success with this but I am still finding items that I wonder why I bothered packing and moving! Good luck on the move!

Jenny said...

Wow- awesome candy Maureen!! My tip: Don't let your husband write 'miscellaneous crap' on the boxes with a sharpie.....that just isn't specific enough when you go to unpack;)!!!!!! LOL

Kim H. said...

Thank you for the opportunity!!! My tips for moving are to purge as you go :), to label the boxes as you go as clearly as you can, stack them in the garage according to the area of the house they will go to, always have extra boxes the last day when you are loading up... you will always need more than you think that day. :)

Betty said...

first of all love your cards and check your blog every day - the button card is gorgeous as always. secondly, having moved 17 times in my life (13 as an air force wife and 4 times since i've been single) my best advice is PURGE and then purge some more. one time i had to live in a little apt. for 6 months (not in usa) with only bare necessities and 2 kids and i found i didn't miss all my "stuff" all that much - of course i wasn't into card making then:)

Best of luck with the home!! We are in the midst of a total remodel. There is so much chaos and the realization that we have to much stuff!!!

My best tip is just laugh A LOT!! it helps with the stress.

After a really huge move across the country not long ago, you'd think I'd have at least one forgotten but important tip. All I can think of is make sure to label every box. And the ones that you want first, label them in an even bigger and better way so you can grab them immediately. And the tip I'm not good at at all is to get rid of anything you can before you move! LOL!! I'm a "keeper of stuff" so moving was very hard for me. I gave up as much as I could, but still moved too much stuff with me. I think if I ever have to move again, I'll just ditch it all and start over. I don't ever want to be as tired again as I was after all the packing and lifting.

Thanks for the chance to win such wonderful blog candy!!!!
