Wishing You the Best World Card Making Day Ever!

Happy World Card Making Day!! Wow! There are so many challenges out there...I had to calm down and allow myself NOT to participate in everything. There are a few challenges I will do, but I won't go crazy...that's not what card making is about (that's what shopping for materials is about! LOL). Today's card is for the Viva La Verve October challenge. The twist this week is to make a card in the shabby chic style.

I remember years ago when this term first came out as a decorating style. I loved the soft colours and cozy look of it, but thought, this is not practical when raising children. Of course you had the designers go on and on about how their houses were all in white and they had children and pets (and a huge disposable income to pay for a cleaning lady!) But I digress. I googled "Shabby Chic" and came across a great website by Rachel Ashwell. She's apparently a shabby chic guru. These following photos are from her site and inspired my card today. I even made a list of the inspiring elements...kraft, white, cream, pink, roses, soft pastel, stitching, worn/distressed look, French...

The card photo does not show it well, but the panel on the kraft card base is cream with a damask image embossed in white. I used my new PTI filigree embossing powder and WOW! This stuff is amazing...you must get some! My old white embossing powder never covered like this...it's like butt-ah! I hope you all have a great weekend. It's a little crazy here with housework, family obligations, and getting ready for my nephew's wedding next week. And my dh gets home after 3 1/2 weeks of being away :) Ah, but it's all good :)

What's in it?
Stamps: Verve Wishing You , PTI Damask Designs; SU french script
Ink: versamark; SU choc chip; regal rose
Paper: SU kraft, blush blossom; PTI white, vintage cream; DCWV dp
Accessories: cuttlebug ef; stitching; buttons; roses; satin ribbon; distressor; Labels 9 dies; white embossing powder

Very beautiful Maureen! Love the little flowers pined to the bow. And thanks for the educational info on what makes Shabby Chic. Love the dp...is that your last piece?

Oh I'm right there with you on the challenge overload. I just tried to relax this weekend and get my obligations done and not freak that I couldn't participate in everything. You did a perfect shabby chic card! I really struggle with this style and I can't seem to ever make it work!
