Quite Necessary to My Delight

Good afternoon!!! You have caught me in a card making break from report cards to bring you my entry for the 100th Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge.  Sankari and Brooke are celebrating 100 challenges with a fabulous movie and prizes!! Congratulations, ladies :D  I found out about this challenge over a year ago when Julee (Verve owner) was sponsoring a challenge.  I was hooked since :)  Who doesn't love a great movie?  The movie they are celebrating with is Pride and Prejudice.  Now I will admit, I have heard about this movie, but never had the chance to see it.  I went to Blockbuster last weekend and tried to rent the Colin Firth version, but they only had the most recent one with Kiera Knightly.  I still enjoyed it, although I was expecting a little more romance...hence a 2.5 hour version vs a 6 hour version.  Now, I need to let you know that I was in Future Shop on Thursday and tried to buy the BBC/Colin Firth edition, but no luck except that the very helpful clerk said I should try to buy it online through Chapters (our huge Canadian bookstore chain). Sure enough, they had it, 15% off AND free shipping!!! Bonus!!! It won't arrive in time for this challenge deadline, so I made the card based on the movie I saw.  I took my colours from the scene at the house where Mr. Bingley, his sister and Mr. Darcy were staying.  After they leave, the house staff started covering up all the furniture.  It was a really cool scene shot in slow motion with the colours of white, cream and pink.  It really stood out in my mind.  The sentiment I picked because of how it sounds...very proper and very English and gives the feeling of a sweet, pure love, like the love between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth :) 

The added requirement for the challenge was to add lace to your creation.  I've used lace trim I picked up at the sewing machine store where I bought my Janome last spring.  I tried to keep the card vintage-y to keep with the story.  What's neat about this story is that soooo many love stories/movies have been based on Jane Austen's idea, especially Bridget Jones' Diary...a book and movie I just loved as well :)  I hope you are having a lovely afternoon...I'm back to report cards...thanks so much for visiting :)

Merry Christmas to You

 Good morning sweet friends.  It's Remembrance Day here in Canada so I have the day off.  We had a fabulous assembly at work yesterday honouring the men and women who have and still are serving in the military.  It was so lovely to see a sea of poppies in the gym; each student was wearing one over his/her heart.  Today's card is for Mercy's Tuesday sketch.  I didn't really realize what I was getting into choosing this colourful paper.  I love colour, but this is almost too much for even me!! LOL  I will try to KISS (keep it simple, silly!) next time LOL ;)  I had another card in my head, but thought I should get back on the program and make a Christmas card.  I will keep that card on file in the old noggin' and maybe it will come out this weekend.  Have a wonderful day :)

Bold Happy Birthday

Good morning sweet blog buddies and new visitors :)  I know what you may be thinking...what?  No autumn or Christmas card?  Believe me, no one is more surprised than me.  But sometimes things pop in my head right away when I see a sketch (and sometimes I draw a blank! lol) and I have to go for it.  I love the simple sketch this week over at 2 Sketches 4 You.  So many possibilities.  I had aqua and pink on the brain and then added a bit of yellow because of the patterned paper.  I tried to add some bling, but once again, it just didn't work with the buttons :)  I also couldn't find a matching paper for this October Afternoon dp so I put the ribbon over the place that should've had a sliver of cardstock.  Anyone find a good match to this blue?  LOL  The closest for me was PTI's ocean tides, but it still was a bit off.  The aquamist at the bottom isn't too bad, but I wanted a darker blue.  Anyways, I'm starting to ramble so I'll end it here :)  We have the day off here tomorrow (Remembrance Day) so I'll be writing only a few reports as I like to enjoy my day off without working.  I also plan to organize my PTI dies like Dawn did here.  Have a wonderful Wednesday and thanks for spending a few minutes of your day with me :)

Happy Birthday

Good morning!!  Today's card was made last weekend for the second November Viva La Verve sketch.  Believe me when I say, it was a true challenge.  The two ovals really threw me for a loop and I tried my best to make them work by having them blend in with the background :)  hehe...but guess what?  I actually love this card!! LOL  I think the ovals add a whole lot of interest to the background of the card.  Now, I will not take much of the credit for making them work, rather I will sing the praises of BasicGrey's Pyrus paper.  It is gorgeous!!  A beautiful mix of tapestry and fall colours :)  And that seam binding ribbon is from Memrie Mare on Etsy.  I love the way she sends her packages in used boxes and always adds a sweet bauble or antique button to her ribbon bundles :)  The button on this card is one such treasure she added to my last order :)  What treasures are you loving at the moment?  I'd love to hear :)  Have a wonderful day :)

Season of Love & Peace

Good morning!! This week is going to be another busy one...staff meeting today, Remembrance Day assembly on Wednesday and of course, report card writing in between all the daily activities :)  The big push will be next weekend, but I like to get everything in order before then.  Today's card uses Karen's Sweet Sunday Sketch this week.  I knew I wanted to use white and aqua and this fabulous sparkly star, but the rest of the card came together by playing around with different elements. The star is from MemrieMare on Etsy, where I get most of my seam binding ribbon, but really, you could make them yourselves.  They are die cut from cereal boxes (love that she reuses things!) and just covered with glitter (I'm guessing something like Martha Stewart glitter).  But when I saw them all glittery and sparkly, I had to have some :)  The white used on the card is shimmer white from Papertrey :) Hope you have a lovely day :)

Who You Really Are

 Well, it's a sunny day here, not a good day at all for starting report card comments!! LOL  I've made a to do list today and finishing this card for Stacey's Curtain Call Colour Challenge was on it :)  I had started making a different card last night, but it just didn't finish the way I wanted it to.  I had paper all over the place mixing and matching and going crazy...lol.  Then I saw my Wild Card card from last week and loved the layout so much that I decided that was a good place to restart.  Hmm, black and brown on a card can be tricky...here's what I did...brown stitching, brown embossed circle on doily and brown button; black polka dotted paper, black ink on sentiment, black and white bakers twine in the button.  Definitely a bold card, not for the faint of heart!! LOL  Okay, I'm off to start those report comments :)  I'm also in charge of staff meeting treats for tomorrow...hehe...homemade ginger sparkle cookies and Costco trail mix :D  YUM!!  Thanks so much for visiting....smiles!!

Thanks a Latte

Good morning dear friends!!  Today's card uses this week's Mojo Monday sketch.  It's the first Monday sketch of the month, so Julee has some Verve stamps up for grabs.  Julee happens to be the inspiration for this card today.  She recently acquired a fancy, super deluxe espresso machine and is now in coffee heaven :)  I immediately thought of this takeout coffee cup I picked up in Bellevue this summer.  It reminded me of the Starbucks cups (and for those of you who don't know me, I met my husband there 5 years ago!!).  I also used some beautiful script patterned paper that reminds me of the tissue paper Starbucks uses to pack their mugs when you buy them :)  The kraft panel behind the cup is crimped like the cup sleeves, but hard to see in the picture.  A little twine, twill, bling and coffee bean button and this sweet card is making me need a coffee!!  Hope you have a lovely day.  I'm slowly starting report cards this weekend, but the big push will be next weekend.  Thanks so much for visiting :)
