Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #47

Hi again! Here's my card for the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge. The movie was Forrest Gump. I loved that movie! So many famous lines to be inspired by. I googled "Forrest Gump quotes" and came across this one by Jenny. It's when she and Forrest are running away from her father when they were children. She prays, "Dear God, make me a bird so I could fly far, far away from here." I took the bird image then searched for an inspirational quote about life, using a bird metaphor. When I read this particular one it made me think of Forrest Gump and how he used all his talents dispite all the odds against him. I think that's what makes his character so endearing. The requirement was to have something brown on the card...easy enough for a girl who loves chocolate!! I'm guest designer for next week's challenge...it seems only fitting that I was GD for the last week of school and just before the first week. Hmmmm. I'm setting up my classroom starting tomorrow so I may not be posting daily...I'm hoping every other day? Thanks for visiting :)

What's in it?
Stamps: PTI fancy flourishes;
Paper: SU so saffron, vanilla, choc chip, more mustard, kraft
Ink: SU more mustard; close to cocoa (sponged edges)
Accessories: computer (sentiment); MS edge punch; nestabilities labels 4; gemstones, PTI ribbon; SU birds and blooms die, corner rounder

My Greatest Joy, Awards, and Guest Designer News

Good morning!! This post is of a personal nature and about some blog awards. I will be posting a card for the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge later today. I am the recipient of the Audrey Award this week for my poppy card! So next week I get to be their Guest Designer :) Ok, back on track. My son is coming to visit on Wednesday :) He is an Engineering student at University of British Columbia and only makes it home 3 times a year (Christmas, reading break, and end of the summer). Last year he helped me set up my classroom :) He was the sweetest child and now he's growing into a sweet man :) He'll be 21 in November and is my greatest joy :) I'm sharing this with you as I need to say 7 things about myself for an award coming up in this post and wanted to share a little more about him. Here are a few photos... his school kindergarten picture at age 4 and his high school graduation photo at age 17.

This next photo was taken on our way to my wedding in 2007. I raised Jake on my own so having him walk before me down the aisle was a moment I ponder in my heart always.

Ok, onto the next part of this post...I've received a couple of awards and need to say "Thanks!" and pay them forward. I'm not sure if I'm allowed, but I'm combining them and only saying pay them forward if you have time, otherwise just enjoy them :) Lovely Kristina from Itty Bitty Pieces of Me sent me the Lovely Blog Award, thanks Kristina!! You honour me again, you sweetie!!

Three lovely and talented ladies honoured me with the Kreativ Blogger award. Hugs and thank-yous to Winter, Tanny P (my fellow Canadian!), and Janelle :) To accept this award: 1. thank the person who nominated you. 2. copy logo and place it on your blog. 3. Link the person's blog that nominated you for this award. 4. name 7 things about yourself that people might find interesting. 5. nominate 7 Kreativ Bloggers. 6. post a link to the 7 you nominated. 7. leave a comment on each blog to let them know they are nominated.

Here are 7 things you may find interesting about me...

1) I am the youngest of 6 children (good Catholic family!)
2) I wanted to be a teacher since I was in Gr. 4
3) I raised my son on my own (with great support from family and friends) and he is my greatest joy.
4) I met my husband in Starbucks 4.5 years ago
5) We married on July 7/07 and had a big church wedding and reception with all the trimmings as it was my first marriage.
6) I made cards when I was about 10 years old, started up again in the 90s for awhile, was introduced to Stampin Up in 2004 but became serious once I found card blogs two years ago.
7) I have problems with "left" and "right" and often have to make "L"s with my fingers to know which is which (anyone else have that problem? LOL)

Here are my 7 lovely nominees (I would include those who nominated me but I don't think I'm allowed)....please accept these awards for all the encouragement and inspiration you've given to me this summer :)

1) Laural Lee @ Laural's Passion 4 Paper
4) Maile @ Simply Stamped

Ok, I'm done! Hope to see you a bit later with my Cinema Saturday card...have a glorious Sunday!!

Thinking of You ~ Viva La Verve September Sketch

Good morning, beautiful!! Isn't that lovely to hear? It's what I get to hear every morning from my dh. He's gone for a few days working out of town so I have a quiet house before all the hoopla of next week starts. This card is for the Viva La Verve's first September sketch. The twist is to use "little round things." This Bella image was sitting on my desk with a few others. I had stamped and coloured a few to save time but hadn't used them all. I thought Pregabella would be perfect for the twist since she has a "little round belly." LOL :) The other round things are the embossed swiss dots, the round edge punch, the circles and all the bling. I was only going to do the top row of silver pearls, but then the card looked top heavy, so I went all the way around the scallops. It was either a very good idea or way over the top. But, hey! Bling is best! I think it's rather eye catching. Have a wonderful weekend, all you beautiful blog buddies :)

What's in it?

Stamps: Verve circular sayings; Pregabella

Ink: SU choc chip; Versafine onyx; SU regal rose, kiwi kiss and close to cocoa with aqua pen

The Goodness of Life ~ Verve's Project Parade

Good morning! We are having another beautiful sunny day here :) Yesterday I went fishing with my dh and we caught 6 fish (actually 7 but we threw it back; it was a spawner). So we did have fish last night for dinner :)~ Today's post is for Verve's September Project Parade. The theme this month is to make something for a hostess. Depending on who it is, I usually bring wine or coffee, but if it's a special friend who loves my cards, I'll bring a little set of my cards. The colour scheme was inspired by Jen del Muro's card and Starbucks :) The green is strinking against the white and black. I used white embossing powder with my favourite Kindred Spirits image and popped up that cute little mug again in kraft :) I love the Verve font and flourish on this sentiment. The package has a blossom crinkled flower and a crimped band to mimic the Starbucks cup protector (thanks again to Jen!) I hope you are enjoying your Friday. I have 2 more days of complete freedom and then it's back to work. It's been a blissful, wonderful summer :)

I Am Only As Strong... ~ Mojo Monday 101

Good morning! We are having a lovely sunny morning here in BC, Canada and my dh and I are going to go fishing later this morning :) Hopefully we will catch something for dinner, if not, it's leftover lasagna :) Today's card is for Mojo Monday 101...it sounds like a course, I love it! It's not a contest week so I took the liberty to not use the circle shape. As soon as I saw the circle, "button bouquet" jumped into my head and it took a good 10 minutes to convince myself that I could actually go a whole week without making one ;) Plus I had my new Verve stamps :) I was going to use a Verve sentiment on this one, but have this other coffee stamp that I hadn't used for a while and love. The circle was replaced with a coffee cup to the side of the main panel. The ribbon is gathered and stitched...love that look :) Hope you are having sunshine where you are. I'll let you know if we catch anything...

What's in it?

Stamps: verve delightful and delcious; inkadinkado sentiment

In Dreams ~ Cinema Saturday

Good morning! Today's card is for the Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge. I love it when I've already seen the movie...it makes it easier to get the feel of the movie and increases the inspiration for the card. The movie this week is "Field of Dreams." I've seen this movie several times over the years. I love James Earl Jones' big booming voice. The requirement this week is to use red stitching (from a baseball, I'm assuming). The sentiment that popped into my head right away is from PTI's heart prints sentiments. I think it's perfect for this movie. I had to think about how to add red stitching...I didn't want to do it by hand (lazy?) but didn't have a whole spool or bobbin of red thread. I did, however, have a little sample spool so I loaded it on the machine, kept the cream thread on the bobbin, and did some sample stitching to see how it would turn out. Just the red showed...so I stitched the sentiment onto the card...voila, red stitching!! The layout is simple and I chose a different colour combo to complement the red stitching. I wanted the flower to look like a poppy. The layers are actually stamped with a French Script and polka dot stamps, but you can't tell in the photos. The polka dots are stamped in versamark. Have a wonderful Wednesday :)

What's in it?
Stamps: PTI heart prints sentiments, polka dot basics (su french script and PTI polka dots on flower)
Paper: SU kraft, real red; PTI white
Ink: SU black, versamark

Thanks a Latte ~ my new Verve stamps!

Good morning! My new Verve stamps arrived yesterday and I had to ink them up right away. For those of you who buy from Verve, you know that they smell delicious when they are new. The twist this week for the Viva La Verve sketch was to use your favourite colour combo...hmmmm...which one? I hadn't used aqua/moss green/kraft lately so wanted to use that one. I also wanted to white emboss on aqua again...love that look :) The coffee cup is stamped twice and the kraft one was cut out and popped up with dimensionals. A little bling, some dry and heat embossing, a crimped panel, a luscious bow and voila! Oh, and a little chocolate chip because you always need something sweet with your latte :) This card makes me smile and want a coffee and biscotti!! Catch you all later...thanks for stopping by today :)

What's in it?
Stamps: Verve Kindred Spirits, Delightful and Delicious
Ink: SU choc chip, versamark
Paper: PTI white, spring moss, aqu mist; SU kiwi, teal, choc chip, kraft

The rest of the Mojo Turns 100 cards

Hi all! I'm from Canada, with no accent, so I can't say the friendly "y'all." Rats! I've had a busy morning cleaning and stuff and now am sitting down with the final 3 cards for the Mojo Monday turns 100 sketches. I wasn't going to do them all, but you know how it goes...it was a challenge! And I thought I should enjoy all these challenges now before work starts up. I will go in each day next week to set up and have a writing workshop next Friday. This first card is dedicated to Maile Belles who has been a total sweetie to me as I learn about blogging and possibly publishing one day. She is also a fellow Papertrey Ink fan. If you haven't checked out her blog, please do so. She is so very talented. I finally got to use some Thickers that I picked up on the girls' road trip 2 weeks ago. I love the colour. They are a perfect match to Berry Sorbet (PTI). This was for Monday's sketch...
This next card is Saturday's sketch. I was looking for a large rectangular image for it and dug out the Season of Friendship tree. I love it and haven't used it since Spring! I blame it on the butterflies and button bouquets! I couldn't believe that I made it look like Fall. I am not a Fall person at all. I'm a Spring and then Summer girl, perhaps because of my career ;) I strive to learn how to love Fall. The little birdie is popped up on dimensionals and that adorable little nest is made from twine wrapper back and forth 4 times, ends cut and then tied in a knot. I saw the idea on a few blogs in the Spring and thought it was over-the-top darling.

Finally, the third card is for the last sketch yesterday. I had lots of pink dp left on my table from Dawn's colour challenge so knew I had to make a pink card (with yellow, Kristina!). I love this Stamping Bella (Lattebella) and have used her many times. She is coloured with various SU ink pads and an aquapen on watercolour paper. Hmmmm. I may need to leave soon and make a latte! I always make sure my new students learn my age, my birthday, about Tony (dh) and Jake (ds), and my Starbucks order :)
Here are the sketches in order of this posting. Thanks so much for dropping by. My new Verve order has arrived so I am off to ink some delicious new stamps :) This will be the only time you hear me say, "I love Monday!" LOL

Miss You ~ Raspberry Suite Colour Challenge #15

Hello fellow stampers! I know this isn't the card I meant to post today but I was so excited about this one I had to share it first. I saw Dawn's colour challenge last night and right away this card popped into my head. It was too late to start so I sketched it out and put some pink dp on my work table. Then I thought about the details and how to use the colours. When I got home this afternoon, I started in. Everything went as planned until I got to the label...hmm, what colour? I made about 3 different ones with different ink on different coloured cardstock, but the vanilla with pink ink won out. There wasn't much green at first, just the scalloped borders, so I added one more button {but no bling :( }. I took the photo just before the wind came up outside and then my battery icon started flashing. I really love this one. The stitching (with cream thread no less!), the buttons, the Labels 4 tag...the dp...everything makes me smile!! Thanks for letting me share my excitement with you :) Sending you all lovely Sunday smiles :)

What's in it?
Stamps: PTI mega mixed messages
Ink: SU rose romance

Birthday Wishes ~ Mojo Friday Sketch

Salutations! I hope everyone is having a splendid Saturday so far. My dh is working in Alberta this week so I am on my own schedule :) I went down to our local Farmer's Market (I'm addicted to beets and green beans right now) and then had coffee at a funky little coffee place and read my book for about an hour. It's heating up again so the sun is shining and the A/C has been clicking off and on all day. Today's card is for Teresa's Friday sketch. I was really wanting to use Apricot Appeal as it was once a much loved staple with me. I think it was replaced with Raspberry Fizz!! I also wanted to use Upsy Daisy. Sometimes I dig through my pile of stamp sets and say, "Aw, you need some love!" I stamped the daisies in versamark and clear embossed. This is a fantastic way to get a darker image on your cardstock. Try it on kraft...you'll be amazed at how dark the image will get. I have one more Mojo card but will save it for tomorrow and hopefully will share some Awards that have kindly been sent my way :)

What's in it?

Stamps: SU upsy daisy, verve wishful elegance

Paper: SU kraft, vanilla, regal rose, apricot appeal: DWCV dp

Ink: versamark; PTI melon berry

Accessories: cuttlebug ef; gemstones; circle nestabilities; satin ribbon (Walmart); prima flower; pearl; dritz pins; clear embossing powder

Thank You So Much ~ Mojo Monday Sarah's Sketch

Okay, thanks for hanging in!! This last card is for yesterday's Mojo sketch. I'm posting all 3 cards separately so that when I link the cards to Mr. Linky they will be easier to view individually. Does that make sense? I know many of you (actually no one, I just thought I'd say that because it sounds good!! LOL) have asked to see MORE of the button bouquets ;) so here's one more!! Thanks for keeping up with me today!! It's like I'm on red bull!! Enjoy your Friday evening :)

Thinking of You ~ Mojo Monday Sketch #2

Greetings, fellow bloggers! This is the first of THREE posts today as I've got 3 cards to share for Mojo Monday's weeklong celebration of 100 weeks. I didn't think I'd do them all, but couldn't stay away :) The first card is for Maria's Tuesday sketch. I'm using my brand new Lables 9 die and the luscious PTI satin ribbon...it is divine!! Tried my hand at piercing because the main panel needed a little something and "bling" just didn't seem right this time...WHAT? Yes, no bling!! But lots of embossing for texture :)

Precious Loving Memories ~ Mercy's Tuesday Sketch

Good morning! It's a lovely sunny day here in British Columbia and I'm feeling much better about this card. As I alluded to yesterday, I was struggling with some new dp and sage shadow. I was so disappointed that I left the studio early on Tuesday (I usually have to be dragged!) and tried to forget about the layers of paper sitting in a pile on the floor. That's where I put something that's not working...I have to get it off the table! But I started fresh the next day and am pleased with the results. Although it's a small piece, I'm using some more of my new dp (not the one that was causing so much distress) and using Mercy's Tuesday sketch. She really is a hoot and I love her blog. I added embossing and stitching...just love the extra texture it adds. I wanted to make a sympathy card as I don't have many on hand and find them difficult to make once I know I need one. I am off to finally see Harry Potter tonight with a dear friend. I taught her kids 9 years ago and we became good friends over the years since. I also want to say thank-you to all of you who visit me...I love hearing from you and sharing our love of cardmaking :) Sending smiles to you all :)

Kind Words ~ Jen's Sketch for You to Try

The card today has been in the studio since Sunday. I was not happy with the original sentiment shape. I had stamped it on the nestabilities blossom shape and sponged the edges but it looked terrible. I love how others have used the blossom shape and I think I would have liked it more without the sponging or with better sponging. So the sentiment on this card is my third try and I think it works best on the circle. I know it's the same colour palette as of late, but after a BIG disappointment with some new dp and sage shadow yesterday I had to get back to some comfort colours (sort of like comfort food on a cold, snowy day!). Hope you are having a lovely day. I'm off to our Farmer's Market soon and then meeting my dh for lunch :) We have our summer heat back again!

What's in it? Stamps: SU echoes of kindness
Paper: SU kraft, vanilla, choc chip, pomegranate, blush blossom; DCWV dp

Sweet 16th Birthday ~ Cinema Saturday Challenge

Hello happy bloggers!! Today's card is a total 180 for your viewing pleasure :) Not a soft tone in sight! This week's Cinema Saturday movie is Sixteen Candles. I remember this movie and have seen it several times on t.v. over the years. The requirement this week was to make a birthday card using colours that were big in the eighties. Everything was bold and bright back then (I remember a black jacket I had with big bold flowers on it...my dancing jacket!). This card uses many of the new SU In Colours and some ribbon I picked up at Michaels in the Spring. I stamped out 2 different sized circles and popped the top one up with dimensionals. Since the movie is "16 Candles," I thought I would add "16" in actual numbers to the ribbon. I hope you are all well in your corner of the world :) We finally have our hot summer weather back :)What's in it?

For You Butterfly ~ Sweet Sunday Sketch

Well, not that I want to start a countdown, but I only have 2 more weeks of doing whatever I want :) Then I will be back setting up my classroom getting ready for a new class come September 8th. It's been a blissful summer and so I will enjoy these next 14 lazy days. I know I am truly blessed to have this large amount of time off and now that my son is grown and at university, I have lots of time to myself to cultivate and enjoy my passions. Today's card is another one based on Karen's Sunday sketch. Multiple panels are getting less scary and give me a chance to dig through my scraps bag, pick out a few gems and play with mixing them. I love the PTI raspberry fizz dp. You can never go wrong with it IMHO. I have been on a pink and kraft kick ever since the fleur de lis run last week. And the butterflies are back! I'm having a premonition that these and the button bouquets will be replaced with poinsettias once Christmas nears :)

What's in it?
Stamps: SU great friend, PTI fancy flourishes (on sentiment)
Paper: SU kraft, vanilla, choc chip, walk in the park dp; PTI raspberry fizz, raspberry fizz dp
Ink: SU choc chip, PTI raspberry fizz; versamark

Get Well ~ Verve Anniversary Sketch

I wanted to share another card I made for Verve's Anniversary last week. This was the fifth sketch that Julee posted. I was very intimidated with the circles at first but then thought about my new patterned paper I bought last week on the girls' road trip :) I added stitching and embossing as I love the texture it adds without overdoing it. The cork birdie was a hit (idea from Dawn McVey awhile back) as was the pink dp. I finished off with the gorgeous PTI satin ribbon and sentiment from the Mega Mixed Messages set. It even made Julee say it made her "heart all aflutter" in my SCS gallery :)

I went to see The Time Traveler's Wife last night...excellent! I had heard mixed reviews, but I loved it. I usually like to read the book first, but wasn't able to. The Lovely Bones is coming out soon and a friend just lent me the book so I can read it first. Hope you are all having a lovely Sunday. Smiles to everyone!!

Thinking of You ~ Viva La Verve!

Good afternoon! Well, it's been quite a week over at the Verve forum with the 2nd anniversary celebrations. It ended last night with the Release Party and winners. Yes, I won a gift certificate!! I was the lucky random post winner on Jackie's challenge with a twist. It was the last card I made, an extra one in fact, with a St. Patrick's Day theme (see card in previous post) in honour of my birthday. And lucky it was!! I bought one of the new sets with my gc so you'll be seeing cards with it in the next week or so. It was also Papertrey's monthly release and my friends and I bought from there as well. Now that's it!! LOL (is it ever?!). This card is for the weekly Viva La Verve sketch with a twist. Amber's twist this week was to make a card with a tag. I looked through my dies and came across this one from the Cuttlebug Harmony alphabet. I liked the punched circle border...kinda different. I also wanted to use this wide ribbon I got at Michaels last year. I love the colours and based the card around them. I'm off to a movie tonight with some old teacher girlfriends. I've heard mixed reviews on The Time Traveller's Wife, although everyone says the book was fantastic. I haven't read it yet. My friend, Melisa, is going to lend it to me when she finishes it this week :) Hope you are having a lovely day wherever you are!!
