Thinking of You

thinkingofyou

Hi everyone!!  Well, we are back safe and sound and a little more refreshed from when we left on Friday.  We were at the Sparkling Hills Resort about 1.5 hours away from here.  It’s a new facility owned by Gernot Langes-Swarovski from Austria and has 3.5 million Swarovski crystal elements throughout the resort’s design.  Check out more details with my link :)  And now onto today’s card.  It’s for Stacey’s Curtain Call Colour Challenge this week.  I was so tempted to make a Fall card, but the nasty weather we’ve been having put a stop to that.  I  picked up these sweet little kraft bags after seeing Dawn' McVey’s adorable card using one of them.  Here’s what the little bookmark looks like…it was made with Verve’s Sweet Scallop Die (which is still on sale until the end of the month…tomorrow!) and a quote from Verve’s Blue Skies set.

thinkingofyoubookmark

So on our little weekend getaway, we made a quick trip into the bigger city just next door and I did a “little” paper and ribbon therapy ;)  We also bought all our appliances for the new house we are starting to build this year!! (not at the LSS, but at an appliance store! LOL).  So it was a VERY productive trip all round.  Enjoy the last bit of the weekend.  Report card writing starts this week, so my posts will be a little scattered.  I’ll leave you with the pile of treats I came home with ;)

The Most Room in Your Heart

vlvmarweek1

Good morning!!  I am off on a romantic getaway with the dh… a little R & R before report card writing starts next week.  Today’s card is for the first Viva La Verve sketch for March (even though it’s still February! lol)  Amber starts off each month and she never disappoints with a fabulous sketch.  At first I didn’t know which way to go with all the panels so I went with similar papers from the same collection…Memory Box Gossamer.  With all the soft colours I decided to make it a baby card.  Thanks for stopping by :)  Enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

PTI Blog Hop ~ Sensational Scallops

loveliveshere
Yippee!!! TGIF friends!! What a great day it’s going to be…a little romantic getaway with the dh, a professional day at work, an afternoon appointment with my massage therapist AND a fun blog hop with PTI!!  Okay, onto the cards because as you know, I can never just do “one” project ;)  This month’s theme is “Sensational Scallops” so I’ve tried to use them in different ways on my cards…this first on uses a scalloped frame using my nestabilties and my OLD chipboard coasters that are coming back into style!! I’m so glad I kept them! LOL  I’ve also added a scalloped border punch on the tag and the lace trim has scallops too.  Next up is  the next installment of the Wild Card Colour Challenge…since it was created for a PTI blog hop, I thought it would be fun to include another Wild and Random colour combination (picked, once again, by my son, Jake, who was visiting at the time :)  You can probably pick out the scallops here…flower and border :)  hehe…

Up last is a card using a circle punch to make the scallops…yes, I’ve got a little tag obsession going on and PTI is NOT helping it! LOL  Well, that’s it for me…thanks for popping by and have a great Friday!! Yippeee!!

Happy Birthday ~ Make it Monday

happybirthday

Good morning!! Well, I survived Monday and the week’s already half done :)  I was looking around for some new challenges this week and thought I’d participate in PTI’s Make It Monday.  You watch the video on Nichole’s blog and then make a card to enter into the weekly contest.  I’m sooooo glad they made it a random winner…that way it’s fun for EVERYONE not just the uber talented designers out there :)  The challenge was to use scor tape and glitter.  I love this way of applying glitter.  I broke out my gallon of Martha Stewart Antique silver glitter that will last forever ;)  {KWIM? lol} I had this pretty piece of Webster’s Pages dp on my desk from my PTI blog hop cards (come back Friday for those!) and then just started adding some little bits of loveliness :)  The sentiment looked so lonely all by its lonesome so I added a couple of gems to make it happy  (ok, and me! lol).  I smudged the edges with tea dye ink and had a hard time convincing myself that it’s for the “aged” look and NOT to redo the whole card because of a “smudge.”  I really meant for it to be there, but the “anal” part of me is cringing!  EEK!  That’s all for me…I’m off this weekend for a romantic getaway with the dh but I’ll have a few scheduled posts while I’m away.  Thanks for visiting :)

You Go Girl!!

yougogirl
Good morning to all my friends who are OFF today because it sounds like EVERYONE in the world has a holiday today except B.C.!!  Boy, does that sound a little pouty?  Just a little…lol.  I’m back at it after only one day off this weekend, but the week is short with Parent/Teacher interviews and a Professional Day on Friday so it won’t be too long :)  Today’s card is for a “new to me” challenge, the Colour Cue Challenge for W9 Design Studio (hope I got that right!).  I was inspired by the fabulous colours I first saw on Maile’s blog.  We started blogging around the same time and she was SO helpful with the fine details of blogging, photography and publishing.  (Thanks again, Maile!).  Can you tell I had to adjust the Hawaiian Shore colour again?  LOL  I made it really bright so you all could tell it was HS and not just turquoise…hehe.  The little flower on the dress form has been cut out of felt to add a mix of textures and I’m using one of my favourite sentiments from Verve’s To The Moon set.  Well, that’s it…a full day WITH a staff meeting…wish me luck ;)  Thanks for popping by…

Sunshine and Smiles #2

sunshineandsmiles2

Hi everyone!!  Well, I’m back safe and sound from my out of town teaching conference.  It was fabulous and I can’t wait to try something I learned in my class this week :)  I’ve tried switching gears now to card making and thought I would ease into it with a card for Stacey’s Curtain Call Colour Challenge.  Stacey is throwing us some fabulous bright colours and I just love them.  I’ve been on a white card base kick lately.  I just love the crisp, clean look of it.  This card is also my second card in the Sunshine and Smiles series, a set of cards for a colleague who always uses “Sunshine and Smiles” with her signature :)  Well, that’s about it for me…off to do some household things before getting back to the studio.  Thanks for stopping by today :)

Enjoy Your Day

enjoyyourdayvlvfeb4

Yippee!!! It’s Friday AND I’m at a fabulous 2 day conference with several colleagues!!  I do love to have days like these to reflect on my class and teaching and to learn the latest on best educational practices.  This conference is a follow up to the 3 day one I took last summer.  Anyways, you are here for a CARD!!  This is for the last Viva La Verve Sketch over on the forum.  That means that if you’ve played all month, you could win the next entire Verve Release!! Woot, woot!! Check out all the deets over on the forumDiva Andrea is hosting and assures us that there are NO TILTED panels on this sketch, only triangles…lol.  I was so excited to dig out some more Spring paper and a Verve stamp that was needing some love :)  My ribbon seemed a bit too thin under the oval panel, so I doubled it!!  Love how it turned out :)  Have a wonderful Friday!!

Sunshine and Smiles Series

sunshineandsmiles1
Good morning!! Well, Valentine’s Day has come and gone and that means the next card making season is St. Patrick’s Day {{wink, wink!}}  and SPRING!!!  Bless that little Groundhog for predicting an early Spring 2 weeks ago…it was SOOOOO beautiful here yesterday…the kids were even taking off their jackets at lunch!!  Today’s card started out as sketch challenge, but my inspiration led me away from it a bit too much and so I just went with what was coming out of my head.  One of the biggest thrills for me as a card maker is hearing how much my card has meant to someone.  Last month I sold many of my cards at work to coworkers. Well, one of my sweet coworkers approached me today and asked if I would make her a set of cards with the words, “Sunshine and Smiles.”  It turns out this is her “signature quote” when she signs her name!  I love when things like this happen.  Another teacher who had bought a card from me (with this sentiment) gave it to HER!! LOL  She loved it so much, she is now asking if I could make other cards using it :)  And so is born my little “Sunshine and Smiles” series.  Whenever I make another card for her set, I’ll post it here :)  But in the meantime, I wish you all Sunshine and Smiles  :)

My Thoughts Today {on some organization}

everythought

Good morning everyone!!  No challenges or special events happening here today…just some good old fashioned playing around.  I mixed some Basicgrey Curio and Pyrus together for the quilted background.  The extra large eyelet die is from PTI…the loops are a bit thicker than the Spellbinders lacey circle dies.  Heidi over at Heidi’s Happenings asked how I stored my beloved Verve Stamps, so I took a few shots of my binders :)  The covers are a lovely turquoise blue like Julee’s Verve colours :)  The sleeves are either page sleeves, photo sleeves or trading card sleeves…I don’t have them in any particular order, just as I get them.  However, all the larger sets are together and  the small sets are behind the plain janes. When I get them, I take them out of the plastic envelope and attach them to cardstock with Scor Tape.  This is NOT my idea, but one I saw on Splitcoast.  I thought of going the CD cover route, but I’ve had too many crack and fall apart.  I love the ease of flipping through the binders to find the perfect stamp :)  Oh, one last thing!! I just received an Verve newsletter email saying that there is a ONE DAY sale over at the Verve Store in honour of Julee’s husband’s (Mark) birthday!!  Woot, woot!! Check it out!!   Okay, that’s it for me…have a lovely day and thanks for visiting :)

There was so much yumminess going on here that I made a list of all the elements I wanted to include in my card…crystal (pin tops), hearts (swirling heart stamp and glitter hearts), silver (scalloped heart and button), bling/beading (gemstones), and all the different pinks on white.  So, are YOU ready to get YOUR Diva on?  Have a terrific day…my son is here and coming to work with me today…the kids will love having him.  We even have a Valentine folder for him to receive all his cards :)  Hugs and love to you all :)

Just for You

justforyou

Good afternoon, everyone!  I’ve had a little time in the studio today.  We were out enjoying the warm, sunny day looking at some ideas for the new house :)  Today’s card uses Stacey’s colour combination for the Curtain Call Colour challenge this week.  I am loving the mix of white with cream and real red with cranberry (oops, I mean cherry cobbler! lol).  I was so happy to pull out my little order form again and make a little note page panel.  I’m also using the new-to-me Just for You set from Verve.  It fits the embossed oval die perfectly :)  I hope you’ve had a great weekend.  Come back bright and early tomorrow for the first Verve Get Your Diva On challenge over on the Splitcoast Forum…it’s gonna be fun!!

I Never Want to Live Without You

vlvfeb3

Good morning!! It’s Friday and you know what that means!!  Moe’s favourite day AND a new Viva La Verve Challenge.  Sweet Diva Teresa is hosting this week and has the cutest sketch for us :)  Just look at that adorable little envelope!!  I had every intention on making one with a sweet little heart poking out, but I got distracted last weekend with tickets!! LOL  So I changed it up a bit and stapled a cute little die cut ticket to the vellum panel and stamped the '”XOXO” from Love Notes on it.  I’m back to my coaster frames again…this time a scalloped circle one :)  I’m also using a new button that I picked up a few weeks ago at the Fabric Store sale :)  Ahhh, Friday…hope yours is starting out as well as mine.  AND BONUS, my son is coming for a quick visit tonight during his reading break :)  Hugs all around!!

You’re in My Thoughts

inmythoughts

Hi again!!  One more post before bed…nope, Papertrey Ink is not done with the challenges…this one was right up my ally as I’ve been making tags and frames for a few weeks now…I had no plan in mind, just grabbed another chipboard coaster and my Spellbinders Nestabilities.  I inked the edges of the frame to define and age it a bit.  Here’s the tag by itself…

framedtag

But you all know I can’t resist putting one on a card, so I did!! LOL  Wow! Two in one night! Only because tomorrow is Friday!! Sleep tight and don’t forget my early morning post for the Viva La Verve challenge :)

Happy Birthday

happybirthdaybuttons

Good evening!! Well, I guess the joke is on me :)  The PTI challenges are still on! The only way I’m able to do any of this is that I think about a card all day at work.  Then when I finally get home I whip it up :)  The challenge today is to use buttons…hardly a challenge!! LOL  NOT using them would be more of one.  They are coming out with a vintage button card set and have asked us to make a card using buttons.  I thought of my Grandpa’s button collection right away.  I am the proud owner of some of his button boxes, pictured here with some real vintage buttons given to me by my friend, Melisa :)

buttonboxes

Inside those boxes, I found some of my Grandpa’s vintage button cards…aren’t they adorable?  The bottom left hand one says “Guaranteed Washable.”  lol

grandpa's buttons

I took the little card to the right and attached it to my card :)  I had to turn off one of my light box lights as there is foil backing the buttons :)  I think they look like little button diamonds :)  I don’t think Grandpa would ever have imagined this would be in style!! LOL  AND, just because I’m a little proud of myself for thinking of this before the PTI trend, here are my cards using chipboard coaster frames!!  I have a TON of these little coasters from about 5 years ago when we used them in my card class making little books, etc.  Last month I discovered making little frames out of them :) Thanks for dropping by :)  I’ll be back first thing in the morning with my new Viva La Verve card…it also has a chipboard coaster frame!!
