Waltzingmouse Blog Hop ~ Happy St. Patrick’s Day ~ Blog Candy!

St. Pat’s Fact: Much Irish folklore surrounds St. Patrick's Day. Not much of it is actually substantiated. Some of this lore includes the belief that Patrick raised people from the dead. He also is said to have given a sermon from a hilltop that drove all the snakes from Ireland. Of course, no snakes were ever native to Ireland, and some people think this is a metaphor for the conversion of the pagans. Though originally a Catholic holy day, St. Patrick's Day has evolved into more of a secular holiday.

Good morning and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!1 There’s a lot going on today so let’s get right to it!  First up, this sweet vintage-y card is for the Waltzingmouse Stamps blog hop.  It happens every month on the 17th and as luck would have it, that’s St. Patrick’s Day this month!! I share their love for this day so it was easy to make the required green/St. Patrick’s Day/celtic card :) I found a sweet little vintage Irish girl card and then added an Irish blessing to her.  I love the little shamrock tag hanging from the ribbon :)

As many of you know, it’s also my birthday!!  I feel so blessed having entered the world on this fabulous day!! Hence the Irish name, Maureen.  I am also 1/4 Irish on my Mom’s side :)  It’s not a party with out a goodie bag so I’m offering up a little treat to one lucky commenter on today’s post.  I’ve got 2 of my favourite Verve stamp sets (Feel the Sun, Better with You) and a bag of goodies…I’ll be going through the studio and filling a little bag with various embellishments (they’ll come in a plastic bag for shipping).

All you have to do is leave a comment…a little birthday love, a great St. Patrick’s day story or maybe tell me what a good birthday wish might be as I blow out my candles today!  Also, leave an email address if your email is not turned on for comments, otherwise I cannot contact the winner.  I will post the winner’s name next Saturday morning, March 24th.  The winner will have 3 days to contact me if I cannot contact them or I’ll draw another name.  Thanks for stopping by and “May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow.”

Good Luck!

St. Pat’s Fact: St. Patrick was born in 385 AD somewhere along the west coast of Britain, possibly in the Welsh town of Banwen. At age 16, he was captured and sold into slavery to a sheep farmer. He escaped when he was 22 and spent the next 12 years in a monastery. In his 30s he returned to Ireland as a Christian missionary. He died at Saul in 461 AD and is buried at Downpatrick.

Good morning!! EEK!! It’s the Friday before Spring Break, it’s the day before my birthday and St. Patrick’s Day and I’m the hostess over on the Viva La Verve Forum!!  I chose my favourite sketch from the Verve January Release :)  In honour of my favourite day, I used my Verve Lucky You stamp set and matching Shamrock die. I’ve stamped the sentiment onto the Curvy Bookplate die and layered that onto a journal card.

Here’s a rerun of the card I made in January :)

My Friend

St. Pat’s Fact: The actual color of St. Patrick is blue. Green became associated with St. Patrick's Day during the 19th century. Green, in Irish legends, was worn by fairies and immortals, and also by people to encourage their crops to grow.

myfriend

Good morning!  Well, it seemed taking a night off from stamping worked last night :)  I feel refreshed and a card sketch popped into my head as I got home from work :)  The colours are from the colourQ challenge this week and I’ve made sure I followed the colours to a capital “T,” including not adding a 5th colour from the picture (I have a habit of doing that! Sorry! ;)  I will confess to this card having a “blooper” though…see if you can find it and let me know in a comment!! It’s always fun to have a game going!! LOL  And no, it’s not that it’s NOT a St. Patrick’s Day card!! LOL  I thought I’d throw you all and make a CAS friendship card :)  It could also be a little birthday shout out to blog buddy, Heidi, for today is her birthday :)  Happy Birthday Girl!!  Thanks for stopping by…have you figured out the blooper?

May Your Blessings

St. Pat’s Fact: Adding to the fact about the 3 leafed shamrock from yesterday…legend says that each leaf of the clover means something: the first is for hope, the second for faith, the third for love and the fourth for luck.

 heartshamrock

Good morning!!  I was ready to make a new card last night…but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what to do with a certain sketch challenge and the cozy fire upstairs and a certain handsome husband were too lovely to resist {wink!}.  So I went through some cards I haven’t shared on the blog and this one seemed perfect seeing as there are only 4 more days to the BIG DAY!!  LOL  I made it back in January for the Verve Release :)  I was set to showcase the curvy hearts dies and stamps and somehow a shamrock came out!! LOL  Go figure!  Thanks so much for visiting :)

Lucky You

St. Pat’s Fact: One traditional icon of the day is the shamrock. And this stems from a more bona fide Irish tale that tells how Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Trinity. He used it in his sermons to represent how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit could all exist as separate elements of the same entity. His followers adopted the custom of wearing a shamrock on his feast day.

luckyyou

Good morning!! Another week, but a lucky one if you are in Ms Plut’s class!! HA!!  You see, being a St. Patty’s Day baby, she has a leprechaun that comes to visit and the tricks kick into high gear the closer it gets to St. Patrick’s Day!!  Heavens knows what fun we may find first thing this morning!! ACK!!  In celebration of my birthday week (yes, I take a week!), I made a fun Irish card with some LOUD patterned paper and a sweet little Verve shamrock :)  I’m using Kasia’s sketch from this week’s Retro Sketch challenge.  Kasia is another CAS Queen…really, you should check out her work HERE!  I was so tempted to put some ribbon on here somewhere!! HA!  But that’s not CAS!! LOL  I hope you have a lucky day!! Watch out for those silly leprechauns!

Just Because

St. Pat’s Fact: Lucky Charms, a favourite cereal brand among many, young and old, was created in 1963, with its popular mascot, Lucky the Leprechaun.  I’m bringing a box in to my classroom for “yummy math” on Friday!!

Good afternoon!  It’s been a busy day here but I finally sat down to make a card for this week’s colourQ colour challenge.  I JUST received my PTI order that was ordered on February 15th so you can imagine how itchy I was to use this frilly flowers stamp set and matching dies!  Oh, I love these!!  I’ve used ALL the stamps and ALL the dies to make this pretty flower :)  Thanks so much for visiting :)  Now off to unpack more of my new goodies :)

You are a Treasure

St. Pat’s Fact: The phrase, "Drowning The Shamrock" is from the custom of floating the shamrock on the top of whiskey before drinking it. The Irish believe that if you keep the custom, then you will have a prosperous year. I wonder if martinis would work instead? LOL

vlvmarweek2

Woohoo! It’s Friday!  It’s been an extremely emotional week at work and I’m needing the weekend to recharge and regroup.  Nothing better than a little inky time and the new Viva La Verve sketch to cheer a girl up :)  Today I went totally girlie, girlie!!  I’ve used this sweet sentiment from Verve’s Sunny Days as well as the Loopy Blooms dies to create this felt flower.  This stamp set and these dies are all on SALE over in the Verve Store this month!!  Check them out and then join us over on the Viva La Verve forum for some more eye candy :)  Hope your weekend is starting out right :)  Hugs and thanks for all the support this week.  I love to hear that you all love teachers :)  Me too!! LOL
