Happy Birthday

blackmagicjugs

Good morning!!  I am enjoying the start of our Thanksgiving Day long weekend :)  If all has gone well, the dh and I are in Washington picking up some big tools and having a much needed romantic getaway :) I’m the Guest Designer over on the Just Us Girls Challenge blog and this week is Technique Week.  Yikes!  I’m not a technique kind of gal, but I am always game for a card challenge.  Let’s just say my little neurons are alive and well after this one :)  I thought about this card for a week…seriously!  I went to the Splitcoast tutorial on this and decided I would treat myself to some watercolour pencils at Michaels…LOVE that part of this challenge…shopping :)  But when I went to make my card, it just didn’t look right.  Then I tried 3 more images…no good.  Then I brought in the big gun…Google.  I googled the technique, being careful to add “card technique” so I wouldn’t get any weird witch site!! LOL  I found one tutorial HERE that used pastels instead of pencil crayons!  It reminded me of the Poppin’ Pastels technique…except I still used the craft white on black cardstock.  However, I then covered my image with pastels for a softer, clean look. After applying pastels, I wiped the image with a swiffer!!  I stamped the black line image on top and then added some gorgeous gems for a little something, something.  I’m thinking this would be a great card to send my sister who’s birthday is October 30…very close to Halloween!  I hope you will head over to the JUGS Blog and check out all the fabulous samples from the Design Team…and hey, give it a try!!  Your brain will thank you! Have a wonderful Saturday :)

Absolutely stunning Maureen - I struggled to find the right image for this technique - I've done it with chalks before but never with pencils. Yours turned out just beautifully. Thanks for another winning projects for JUGS!

A very pretty card with this technique. Love the purple and black. Sounds like you are having a fun weekend! We're having lots of family visits here and I'm working on my university assignments. I hope to make a lot of progress over the next couple of days. I managed to get a little stamping in! :) Talk to you when you get back.

Watercolor pencils are not the same as colored pencils for drawing and coloring. But, now you have some new watercolor pencils to play with even though they didn't work for this. Your card is lovely and very different from your usual style.
